Personalized Colorado Tutoring Sessions at the Commonwealth Learning Center

Commonwealth Learning Center (CLC) is a distinct tutoring center that offers individualized tutoring. While other tutoring services rely on group settings, we believe in providing focused attention to each student through one-on-one sessions. We recognize that every student comes to CLC with unique challenges and educational goals. Our supportive and patient environment caters to students of all ages, from kindergarten through adulthood.
Regardless of the difficulties a student may face, whether it’s overcoming curriculum hurdles or dealing with a learning disability, our programs and teaching approach provide the perfect solution. Students with various learning challenges, such as ADHD, executive function difficulties, dyslexia, non-verbal learning disabilities, and language-based learning disabilities, seek our tutoring services. Our educators are highly experienced and hold advanced degrees in special education, mathematics, and reading.

We Offer Services in Four Key Areas:

Educational Assessments for Colorado Students

We believe in early intervention to address any learning difficulties and guide students toward academic and life success. Our evaluations have the power to transform students’ lives by helping them grasp concepts that were once elusive.
Every new student starts with a complimentary consultation with our CLC director. During this consultation, we review the student’s academic performance and history. Once we understand their strengths and weaknesses, we develop a personalized education plan tailored specifically to them.
After the evaluation, each student and parent receive a testing report that highlights areas requiring improvement and outlines the methods we recommend to address them.

Assisting Colorado Students with Reading

Developing strong reading skills can be challenging for young students. At CLC, we foster improved literacy skills in Colorado through our accredited programs, which have proven to enhance reading abilities. These programs are designed to help students with dyslexia and other difficulties associated with reading. Our reading programs include:

  • Exploring Orton-Gillingham

Orton-Gillingham is an excellent choice for learners who struggle to associate sounds with letters and often experience pauses while reading. This phonetically based program teaches students the fundamental building blocks of the English language and expands from there.

  • Introducing the Wilson Reading System

The Wilson Reading System is a 12-step program that focuses on reading and writing. It benefits students who struggle with spelling and find it challenging to read words without contextual cues. This program builds upon previously taught concepts, reinforcing fundamentals before advancing to the next step.

  • Understanding the Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing™ Program

Also known as LiPS, this program assists students who struggle to process individual sounds in words. It teaches them how to articulate words, enabling them to write and read effectively. Specialists using this program demonstrate how the lips, mouth, and tongue form specific letters and words.

  • Discovering the Nancibell® Visualizing & Verbalizing® Program

The Nancibell® Visualizing & Verbalizing® Program helps learners develop mental images as they read and write. This program enhances scholastic abilities across all subjects, not just reading and writing, by employing a visual approach.

Math Tutoring Available Near Colorado

We offer math tutoring for students of all ages and mathematical skill levels to help them achieve their best grades in math. Whether they are learning fundamental elementary school math or high school mathematics, we have a range of math programs suitable for all levels. Our programs focus on helping students visualize solutions and understand math concepts. We emphasize the importance of writing down math formulas and solutions to aid in retention.
One of our featured programs is TouchMath, which provides a multisensory approach to reinforce mathematical principles. Through tactile engagement, children learn how to add, subtract, and multiply by “touching” numbers.

Preparing Colorado Students for Various Exams

When Colorado students face exams for college or high school admission, we alleviate the stress of preparation. We offer one-on-one tutoring to help students prepare for exams such as MCAS, SAT, SSAT, PSAT, and more. Our expertise in these exams enables us to effectively guide students through challenging questions.
For mature students seeking more job opportunities, we provide assistance in studying for the GED exam.

Why Choose CLC Tutoring in Colorado?

At CLC, we differentiate ourselves by providing convenient amenities, including ample parking at all our locations. Our centers are modern and well-equipped with computers. We offer private and quiet work areas for students to avoid distractions.
All CLC instructors undergo background checks, and we employ both part-time and full-time specialists. Our instructors possess extensive knowledge and experience in supporting students through multisensory programs.
Qualified students may be eligible for financial aid at CLC, and siblings of clients receive a 10% tuition discount. We do not require students to sign contracts; they can continue attending CLC for as long as they need.

ADD vs ADHD: Differentiating the Terms

ADD and ADHD are two terms that often cause confusion. Do they mean the same thing?
The answer is both yes and no. In the past, ADD (attention deficit disorder) and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) were considered separate diagnoses. ADD in children referred to symptoms that did not include hyperactivity but rather withdrawal, spaciness, difficulty focusing, and trouble following instructions. On the other hand, ADHD in kids was characterized by excessive energy, incessant talking, and hyperactive behavior.
However, today ADD is considered an outdated term, and ADHD is the recognized name for any behavior indicating an inability to focus, regardless of hyperactivity. Therefore, attention deficit disorder in children falls under attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Nevertheless, some doctors may still use ADD or ADHD to describe a child’s specific condition to avoid confusion.

Diagnosing ADD and ADHD in Colorado Children

Contrary to popular belief, there is no single test to diagnose ADD or ADHD. Instead, doctors rely on interviews with parents, teachers, relatives, and other adults who regularly interact with the child to determine if their symptoms align with ADD or ADHD. Standard guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics or the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) are used for making the diagnosis. Additionally, vision and hearing tests are conducted, and a comprehensive physical examination is performed to rule out any other medical conditions that may exhibit similar symptoms to ADD and ADHD.
If your child is diagnosed with either condition, it is important to inform their educators so that they can provide appropriate support and make recommendations to improve their focus in the classroom.
