Commonwealth Learning Center Provides Individualized Tutoring in Watertown, Massachusetts

Commonwealth Learning Center (CLC) is a unique kind of tutoring center. Other tutoring facilities use group settings to coach their clients, but we give them personalized attention by working with them one-on-one. We believe that every client comes at CLC with their own pecific hurdles and educational goals. We coach students of all ages (K-1 through adult) in a compassionate, relaxing atmosphere.

We work with students of all abilities, regardless if they need a little extra homework help or are faced with a learning disability. We work with clients who have dyslexia, ADHD, language-based learning disabilities, non-verbal learning disabilities, and executive function difficulties. Our educators are certified and experienced with postgraduate degrees in special ed, reading and math.

Here are the top four services we specialize in:

Educational Assessments

We believe that early intervention is crucial to help a child succeed in school as well as the rest of their life which is why CLC offers educational assessments that help reveal a learning difficulty or effective learning style. These assessments can help transform a student’s life by helping them grasp concepts that had previously eluded them.

We offer a free of charge consultation with the CLC director for all new students that includes a review of past exams and results. Once we learn a student’s strengths and weaknesses, we can offer a personalized teaching plan made specifically for them.

After the evaluation, the student and their family will receive a testing report that pinpoints areas of difficulty and which programs and methods we recommend to remedy it.

Our Watertown Reading Tutoring Program

Reading well can be one of the toughest things for a child to learn how to do. We help create stronger readers in the Watertown, MA area using several accredited programs proven to improve reading skills. All of them can address conditions that make reading challenging for students such as dyslexia. Our reading programs include:

  • The Orton-Gillingham Program

This program assists students who may pause when they are making an effort to read through a sentence and find it challenging to match sounds with associated letters. This phonetically based program helps students understand the basic ingredients of English before gently advancing them.

  • Wilson Reading System

Wilson is a 12-step reading and writing program that works well for students who have difficulty spelling words and find it hard to read words by themselves, without surrounding context. The steps are a bit more advanced than those from Orton-Gillingham and helps students remember fundamentals through repeating concepts. The program is effective because students study the current reading and writing concepts to make sure they can retain them before the instructor advances them to the next level.

  • About The Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing™ Program

Also called LiPS, this program helps students who are not able to process individual sounds in words by showing them how to speak words to then be able to write and read them. It shows students how proper use of the lips, tongue, and mouth create the basics of letters and words.

  • Nancibell® Visualizing & Verbalizing® Program

This program was developed to generate mental pictures in students’ minds as reinforcement when they hear and read words. This type of learning helps them succeed academically across many paths of study before reading and writing.

  • We Offer Math Tutoring Near Watertown

From basic math through advanced principles including calculus, we help students be their best at the subject with the help of various of teaching strategies. Our unique math programs help students at all levels “see” solutions and formulas to solve problems. All students create their own math solutions book of formulas that help them absorb and remember mathematical concepts.

Our TouchMath program is a fantastic multisensory tool. It reinforces mathematical principles by having children “touch” numbers to learn to add, subtract, and multiply.
