Commonwealth Learning Center Provides Customized Tutoring Services in Reading, Massachusetts

Commonwealth Learning Center (CLC) delivers benefits that make it stand out from other tutoring centers. As opposed to other facilities that tutor learners in group settings, our specialists support our clients one-on-one to give them the personalized attention they deserve. We believe that every client arrives at the CLC with their own unique hurdles and educational goals. From kindergarten through adulthood, our students are given the assistance they really need in a patient, caring environment.

We work with learners of all capabilities, whether they need a little bonus homework help or are faced with a learning disability. We work with clients who have non-verbal learning disabilities, language-based learning disabilities, executive function difficulties, dyslexia, and ADHD. Our instructors hold advanced degrees in special education, reading, and math and are certified to work with students with learning challenges.

Our four main areas of focus are as follows:

Educational Evaluations/Assessments

We believe that early intervention is essential to help a child be successful in school and the rest of their life which is why CLC provides educational assessments that help reveal a learning difficulty or effective learning style. Our assessments can help change a student’s experience of life by making it fun and easier for them to learn where previously they struggled.

All new clients are given a free consultation with the CLC director that includes reviewing past scholastic history and performance. This helps us uncover a student’s strengths and weak points so we can craft an individualized teaching plan specificially for them.

Each student and parent receives a testing report following the evaluation that highlights spots that need improvement and which of our methods will remedy them.

Reading Tutoring in Reading

Literacy may be one of the trickiest things a young student can master. We help students in the Reading Massachusetts area become stronger readers thanks to our many accredited programs that have been proven to hep master reading skills. All of them can treat conditions that inhibit reading, such as dyslexia. Some of our reading programs include:

  • Orton-Gillingham

This is a fantastic choice for learners who have a difficult time matching sounds with associated letters and who often pause when trying to get through a sentence. It is a phonetically based program that teaches students the basic foundations of the English language and builds from there.

  • Wilson Reading System

A 12-step reading and writing method that works well for students who have difficulty with spelling and find it tough to read words by themselves, without surrounding context. The steps go beyond the phonics of the Orton-Gillingham program and people old on to what they learn from constant repetition. Students read and review what they have been previously taught before progressing to the next step which is part of what makes this a very successful program.

  • The LiPS Program

Also called LiPS, this program helps students who can not process individual sounds in words by showing them how to speak words to then be able to write and read them. Specialists using this program demonstrate how the lips, mouth, and tongue can form certain letters and words .

  • Nancibell® Visualizing & Verbalizing® Program

This program helps students cultivate mental imagery as they hear and read words. This form of learning enables them to succeed academically across many courses of study before reading and writing.

  • We Help Reading Students with Math Tutoring

From elementary math through advanced concepts like calculus, we help students be their best at the subject with a variety of teaching methods. We offer a variety of math programs to help students at all levels grasp math by seeing the formulas. All students create their own math solutions book of formulas that allow them to retain and remember mathematical concepts.

Children learn math more effectively when they see and “touch” numbers, which is why we use the TouchMath program to help them add, subtract, and multiply numerals.
