Commonwealth Learning Center Offers Personalized Tutoring Services in Dracut, Massachusetts

Commonwealth Learning Center (CLC) stands out by offering personalized, one-on-one instruction, unlike group-based tutoring programs. We believe every student, from kindergarten to adulthood, has unique learning needs and goals.

Whether a student needs curriculum support or help navigating learning challenges, our tailored programs provide effective solutions. Our tutors are highly qualified, often holding advanced degrees in special education, reading, and math.

Our main areas of focus include:

Educational Assessments

Early intervention is key to overcoming learning barriers and achieving long-term success. Our educational assessments help students gain clarity and confidence in their learning.

New clients receive a free consultation with the CLC director, including a review of past academic records. This allows us to develop a customized learning plan that builds on each student’s strengths and targets areas for improvement.

After the evaluation, students and parents receive a comprehensive report outlining the findings and recommended strategies for success.

Our Dracut Reading Tutoring Program

Reading challenges can impact a student’s overall academic success. In Dracut, we improve literacy skills through research-backed programs designed to address reading difficulties, including dyslexia. These programs include:

  • The Orton-Gillingham Program

This program focuses on a phonetic approach, helping students understand the fundamentals of the English language. It’s ideal for those struggling with letter-sound correspondence.

  • Wilson Reading System

This 12-step program builds on Orton-Gillingham principles, emphasizing repetition to strengthen reading and spelling skills. It ensures students review and master material before advancing.

  • The LiPS Program

LiPS teaches students how to produce sounds correctly by focusing on the physical movements of the lips, tongue, and mouth, forming a strong foundation for reading and writing.

  • Nancibell® Visualizing & Verbalizing® Program

This program enhances comprehension and critical thinking by helping students create mental images of words and concepts as they read and listen.

  • Math Tutors in Dracut, Massachusetts

Our math tutoring supports students at every level, from basic arithmetic to advanced calculus. We use visual and hands-on methods to help students grasp complex concepts. Students are encouraged to create a math solutions guide, reinforcing their learning.

Younger students benefit from the TouchMath program, a multisensory system that makes learning math engaging and interactive.

ADD vs ADHD: Understanding the Difference

ADD and ADHD are terms often used interchangeably, but they have distinct meanings.

ADD (attention deficit disorder) was previously used to describe inattentive behaviors without hyperactivity, while ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) includes hyperactive symptoms. Today, ADHD is the official medical term encompassing both types of behaviors.

Diagnosing ADD and ADHD in Dracut Students

Diagnosing ADD or ADHD requires a comprehensive evaluation involving interviews with parents, teachers, and others who interact with the child. Medical guidelines from organizations like the American Academy of Pediatrics guide the process.

Once diagnosed, sharing this information with educators is essential to implement effective classroom strategies and accommodations.
