Customized Wakefield Massachusetts Education with the Commonwealth Learning Center

Commonwealth Learning Center (CLC) stands out from other tutoring centers. Other tutoring facilities often use group settings to tutor their clients, but we provide personalized attention by supporting them one-on-one. At CLC we believe that each and every client is one-of-a-kind with their own challenges and goals. Our caring, patient environment supports all of our students regardless of their age (K-1through adulthood.)

We’re the ideal solution for individuals who need a little extra help getting over obstacles to those with learning differences. Our programs and teaching methods are designed to address clients with learning disabilities that include non-verbal learning disabilities, language-based learning disabilities, executive function difficulties, dyslexia, and ADHD. Our teachers are certified and experienced with advanced degrees in special ed, math and reading.

There are 4 main areas we specialize in:

We Offer Educational Evaluations/Assessments

We believe in early intervention to help catch any learning difficulties and guide a student on the pathway to academic and life success. Our assessments can help change a student’s life by making it fun and easier for them to learn where previously they had a hard time.

All new clients are given a free consultation with the CLC director that includes examining past scholastic history and performance. This helps us reveal a student’s strengths and vulnerabilities so we can create an individualized teaching plan just for them.

Shortly after the evaluation, the student and their parents will receive a testing report that identifies areas of difficulty and what programs and methods we recommend to remedy it.

Reading Tutoring in Wakefield

Literacy can be one of the hardest things a young student can master. We help foster improved literacy skills in Wakefield MA with the help of our selection of accredited programs that are proven to improve reading. All of these can treat dyslexia and other conditions that make reading challenging. Some of our reading programs include:

  • Orton-Gillingham

This program assists students who may pause when making an effort to read through a sentence and find it challenging to match sounds with associated letters. It is a phonetically based program that instructs students the basic building blocks of the English language and then builds from there.

  • About The Wilson Reading System

A 12-step reading and writing program that works for students who have difficulty with spelling and find it hard to read words by themselves, without surrounding context. The steps are a bit more advanced than those from Orton-Gillingham and helps students remember principles through repeating concepts. The program is successful because students study the current reading and writing concepts being taught to make sure they can retain them before the instructor advances them to the following level.

  • Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing™ Program

Also called LiPS, this is a powerful phonetic program for students who can not process distinct sounds, or phonemes, within spoken words. It teaches how the lips, tongue, and mouth form certain sounds which produce letters and words.

  • Nancibell® Visualizing & Verbalizing® Program

Learners develop mental images as they read and write because this program uses a visual approach to enable them to remember concepts. This strengthens their academic ability across all types of study, not just reading and writing.

  • We Offer Math Tutoring Near Wakefield

We tutor students of all ages and math levels to help them achieve their finest math grade, whether they’re learning basic elementary school math or high school calculus. Our unique math programs help students of all levels “see” solutions and formulas to solve problems. All students create their own math solutions book of formulas that allow them to retain and remember mathematical concepts.

For younger learners, our TouchMath program uses a multisensory approach that teaches kids to count and touch TouchPoints to add, subtract, and multiply numerals.

Test Preparation in the Wakefield Area

We recognize that taking any test is daunting enough for most Wakefield MA students, and even more so when it’s a required exam for college or private high school admission. Students preparing to take the MCAS, SAT, PSAT, SSAT, or other exams will be totally prepared for them with the help of our one-on-one teaching approach. Our instructors are well versed in the types of questions given in these tests and can tutor learners so that they’ll be prepared and ready to succeed.

We can even assist adult clients with preparing for the GED exam so they can officially graduate from high school, earning greater job opportunities.
