X Meets Y: A Pre-Algebra Brush Up
August 12, 18, & 27, 2020
If your children have experienced struggles and frustration with “getting” core math concepts such as decimals, fractions, mixed numbers, or percentages, this workshop will help them solidify their foundational skills before returning to school in the fall. Geared towards students entering grades 7 and 8, this program is NOT designed to help your child memorize math facts! It’s about helping your child make meaning out of mathematical language, concepts, and operations.
Using games, explorations, mini-lessons, and guided practice, Kat Marsh, M.Ed., will provide a comprehensive overview of core middle school math concepts including operations with positive and negative numbers, fractions and mixed numbers, decimals, percentages, ratios and proportions, squares and square roots, rational and irrational numbers, area and perimeter of common figures, Pythagorean Theorem, and statistics such as mean, median, and mode. Students will be provided with a self-assessment and hands-on materials, guided lessons and practice, and additional activities to do independently or with a family member.
Space is limited and first-come, first-served.
